What is domestic abuse?
Posted on 17th January 2025 at 11:01
Domestic abuse is a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour within an intimate or family type relationship.
Domestic abuse occurs in all forms, physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse! Abuse is abuse and not always physical. Often women will say that the impact of emotional abuse has a long-lasting effect on their emotional wellbeing.
Any form of domestic abuse is against the law and a criminal offence.
Are you scared of your partner?
Do you feel like you have to tread on eggshells around them?
Does your partner put you down?
Does your partner withhold money from you or monitor your spending?
Does your partner threaten to take the children or report you to social services if you don’t do as they say?
Does your partner listen to your opinion?
Do you have a choice in the relationship?
Does your partner treat you differently in front of others?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you may be experiencing domestic abuse.
If you would like to talk to someone about any of the above then please get in touch with Hull Women’s Aid 24 hour helpline 01482 446099, we are here to listen to you and discuss your options.
